Ceramics
Coin Jar
Students are to create a usable coin jar in the shape of an animal or creature. They are not to use a preexisting character to dublicate. They needed to have a coin slot that could fit a quarter. This is the students first assignment in Ceramics 1.
Sgraffito Tiles
Students are to create 4 equal sized slabs (4" x 4"). They will carve into underglaze to create a nature inspired design that demonstrates a different positive and negative space between the 4 tiles. This means for the artist to carve out only the background of two tiles and then carve out the subject matter on the other two. This is a Ceramics 1 project.
Ceramic Buildings
Students are asked to create a building of their choice that is no larger than 6" x 6" x 6". This building needs to be personal to them in some way and contain cut out windows or doors, a large opening in the back for incence or candle, and have different textures through out. This assignment was inspired by pastile burners from 16th Century England and a show that took place at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. This is the final project of my Ceramics 1 classes
