Junior
Summer Assignment
These tasks will be due First Class in September. If you fail to do the tasks below, it will reflect on your grade. You do have 3 weeks once we return to work on it OUTSIDE OF CLASS. You will not have in class time to work on this since you will be starting your Project 1 in August. The reason for this summer assignment is to get you prepared for IB Art and start making art sooner. IB Art has a very strict schedule in the Fall and your preparedness will set you up for success.
- Due Sept 2nd
Worth 50 Points all or nothing
- Purchase a Sketchbook
Hard bound, sketch book (no wire bound, spiral bound)
Acid-free paper (no perforated pages please!)
8.5” x 11”
Suggestion: check for coupons for Michaels – you can often get a 40% coupon to use for your journal. If you subscribe to their newsletter emails, they periodically will advertise them for 50% off. The sketchbook usually costs around $8-10, so the coupon makes for substantial savings.
- Two Observational Drawings
You will divide a page into half with a top and bottom.
You will sketch something in front of you. Please do not use a phone.
You can sketch an object or a scene around your home or community.
- One Duplicate Drawing
You will clip out of a newspaper/magazine or print out an image that you will glue in your sketchbook
You will then draw the image next to it to the best of your ability
- Local Art Hunt Description
You will go find a piece of art around KC and write about it in your journal
I want you to describe:
What does it looks like? (use the elements and principles of art)
Why does it exist? (best guess)
How did the community or world affect it? (best guess)
- Read and Write about Artist
Use the website link below to find an artist of your choice to read about
Read about the artist and look at their art
In your journal write a paragraph about:
Who was the artist?
What kind of art did they make?
What inspired them to make art?
Why are they important to know?
