Chinese Art Choice Board
Choice 1: Chinese Lantern
For this choice, you will be making a Chinese Lantern out of construction paper. You will need to draw out a design on your lantern and put it together.
Watch the video on the Chinese Lantern Customs
Supplies needed for this project:
2 pieces of one color of construction paper PLUS 1 piece of construction paper of another color
scissors
glue stick
colored pencils
drawing pencil
eraser
ruler
Watch the video on how to make the Chinese Lantern project.
I want to see a full 2 paper design on your lantern (not just one small drawing in the corner)
The drawing can be either Chinese inspired or you can draw something from your own culture
You will type up a short paragraph explaining why you chose the colors of construction paper you did and what your design/drawing means.
You will upload an image and your short paragraph in the Google Classroom assignment.
Choice 2: Handscroll Drawing with Poem
For this choice, you will be creating a handscroll, similar to those found in Chinese history on silk. Yours will use tea or coffee dyed paper. You will then draw your own story or epic on your scroll. Your drawing with be accompanied by a poem.
You will begin by watching the video "Viewing a Chinese Handscroll" from the Asian Art Museum.
You will need to sketch out ideas and poems you want to design your scroll around.
Supplies for this project are:
3 (or more) pieces of white printer paper
black tea, coffee, or dirt to dye the paper brown (colored herbal teas could work as well / green tea will not work)
glue stick
drawing pencil
eraser
colored pencils
optional (watercolors or other paint)
Follow the direction in the second video "Handscroll Drawing"
Your drawing can be Chinese inspired or you can draw something personal to you or your culture.
Write your poem on the painting as you would find in a traditional handscroll (you can write it in any language you want)
You will upload an image of your handscroll to Google Classroom assignment. Please include your poem in English for me to read
Choice 3: History of a Chinese Work of Art Presentation Video
For this choice, you will be making a recording of your presentation. You will choose one of the six different pieces of historical artwork, techniques, or architecture from Chinese history to make a presentation on. You will then present that presentation in video format.
Here are the six different pieces of artwork, techniques or architecture you can present on:
Great Wall of China (history, building techniques, & significance)
Temple of Heaven (history, building techniques, & significance)
Chinese Porcelain (how it is made and surface treatment techniques)
Chinese Silk (how it is made and then turned into fabric)
Gu Kaizhi Paintings ((history, painting/drawing techniques, & significance)
Creation and Significance of Jade Sculptures (history, sculpting techniques, & significance)
You will research your chosen topic from above. I would like you to cite 2 different sources of information. Your citations will appear on your last slide.
You will create the presentation using Google Slides, Powerpoint, or Prezi (you choose). Your presentation needs to be 8-10 slides with information on your chosen topic.
You will then need to screen record your presentation using Zoom (follow directions in top video). You might be able to use the following software on a school device: Loom or Screencast-o-matic. I have videos to the left showing you how to record using these three. You only need to choose one. You do not need to have your face showing during the presentation, unless you want to.
You can record your Powerpoint Presentation using the record feature found under the Slide Show tab at the top (Click Here to Learn How)
You will upload your presentation video to the Google Classroom assignment. OR Share the link to your Powerpoint in a Google Doc
