North, Meso, & South American Indigenous Art Choice Board
Choice 1: Personal Totem Pole
For this choice, you will be making a totem pole based on the ideas from the Indigenous tribes in North West America. You are to choose four animals that represent you and three people who are close to you. It could be friends or family. You will only focus on their heads, not full boy.
Requirements: Each animal needs some form of three dimensional elements (nose, wings, tail, ect). It needs to be 16" or taller
Materials needed: 2 full sheets of construction paper, extra construction paper, glue stick, scissors, ruler, pencil, and colored pencils.
Step 1: Watch video about totem poles
Step 2: Look up images of totem animals you want to use in your totem
Step 3: Follow directions in the second video
Step 4: Build your totem pole
Step 5: Upload an image of your totem pole along with a short write up about what each animal represents to you in the Google Classroom Assignment
Choice 2: Inca Inspired Collage Masks
For this choice we will be creating Inca inspired masks. They will be created collaging different patterns or symbols onto the paper. The pattern and colors are up to you. You can make your mask any gender and can add any embellishment you want.
Requirements: the mask must be a minimum of 10" in diameter. It must contain 4 different colors made out of construction paper (no drawn on color). You may draw on it as well after you are done collaging.
Materials Needed: construction paper, glue stick, scissors, ruler, compass, and a pencil.

Choice 3: Comparative Analysis Essay
For this essay, will be writing a 5 paragraph essay comparing the culture and art/architecture of two tribes/civilizations from North, Meso, or South America.
Step 1: you will choose two tribes or civilizations from either North American, Meso-America, or South America.
Step 2: You will also choose two types of art that both of those tribes/civilizations made
sculpture
painting
weaving/basketry
metalwork/jewelry
architecture
ceramics
Step 3: Further research about these two tribes/civilizations and their artwork. If you hit a wall, change your tribe/civilization.
Step 4: Write your essay following the layout below. Adding pictures is optional. If you choose to not include them, make sure you description of the work is detailed.
Paragraph 1: (tribe/civilization 1) Describe who these people were, where did they live, and how did they live (sedentary or nomadic)
Paragraph 2: (tribe/civilization 1) Describe the two types of art you will be comparing. What is it? How was it made? What styles were commonly used in those mediums? What did it symbolize, if it did? Who typically made it? How was this type of art suited (created for) this tribe/civilization due to their lifestyle and location?
Paragraph 3: (tribe/civilization 2) Describe who these people were, where did they live, and how did they live (sedentary or nomadic)
Paragraph 4: (tribe/civilization 2) Describe the two types of art you will be comparing. What is it? How was it made? What styles were commonly used in those mediums? What did it symbolize, if it did? Who typically made it? How was this type of art suited (created for) this tribe/civilization due to their lifestyle and location?
Paragraph 5: Compare the two civilizations work to each other. What was similar? What was different? How and Why?
Step 5: Make sure to add a bibliography of your research at the bottom. You should have a minimum of two citations. You can use either MLA format or Chicago Style formatting
Step 6: Upload your paper to the Google Classroom Assignment.
